Introducing Driss and his Tea

But first, here is Aryanna and her picture that got her 2nd place in a drawing contest in her school. She goes on to a Spain-wide competition now. She received a nice metal medallion for her efforts.

This is Driss (rhymes with crease), our new roommate. He is from Morocco and studying with Carrie at the University. He made some great Moroccan hierbabuena (mint) tea for us.

First he boils dried up tea tree leaves to make a strong green tea.

Close-up. The little balled leaves unfold in the water.

Lots of sugar.

The green tea and sugar is poured into cups containing whole mint leaves.

End result. Pretty good stuff!

This is another version of those little Smart cars, the Smart Roadster. I love it, probably because it looks like a futuristic Honda CRX with a touch of Corvette Stingray. It's one of the few cars newer than 1991 that I find aesthetically appealing.

Unfortunately only about 43,000 were made and production stopped in 2006 due to poor sales. I don't think they ever made it to the States. They have acquired a bit of a cult status in Europe, so they will probably be absurdly expensive and impossible to find before long.

Another angle.

This was the unholy marriage of a Little Grill potato cake and a Spanish Tortilla. It was excellent.

Shredded potato, chopped onion, chopped roasted pepper, eggs, a little flour, a bunch of random spices and salt and stuff, grilled until somewhat solid, and then lightly fried in olive oil.

Until next time!
